"...celebrate the music and the great saxophone playing of Cody Dear...burning up the scene with his playing and compositions. The future of music is in good hands..."

- Justo Almario, grammy-nominated

multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator

Saxophonist, pianist and composer Cody Dear, 23, was raised in Danville, California. Musical organizations that influenced his artistic development include Berkeley Jazzschool Advanced Jazz Workshop and various Honor Ensembles including the California All-state Jazz Band.

Dear has a B.A. in Ethnomusicology with a concentration in Jazz Studies and an emphasis in Performance from UCLA.  He was a three-year member of the UCLA Gluck Music Outreach Program and led the group for two years.  In 2016, Dear interned with the Warner Bros. TV Music Department.  During his senior year in college, he was the recipient of the following Awards and Recognition:  ASCAP Foundation Jazz Composition in honor of Louis Armstrong Award, Emma B. Keller Fine Arts Scholarship, and the Jorge Estrada Award.

He has performed at various local venues and internationally, including North Sea, Vienne, Montreux and Umbria Jazz Festivals as well as venues in Asia.  Dear has shared the stage with distinguished luminaries including Terence Blanchard, Wycliffe Gordon, Justo Almario, Uri Caine and Antonio Lysy.  He had the honor and privilege to play a saxophone solo rendition of the National Anthem during the City of Carson Annual celebration of Larry Itliong Day.

Dear’s compositions are a cross-genre of R&B, Soul and Funk, influenced by the improvisation elements of Jazz.  His diverse style has given him the opportunity to headline shows in different types of music venues including Jazz at Bar Fedora and Vitello’s Super Club to Funk at The Mint and The Study.  In addition, his eclectic sound has allowed him to join LA based musicians on a Corona beer television commercial and perform and record with artists such as Megan Lee, Diamond White, Chai, Elissia Mariah, Mike Bauer, Travis Barker, Maejor and Max Schneider.

He currently has two residency gigs; his Quartet at Milk Tavern and his Trio at Li Orient. Dear's singles, "Promposal" and "Saun Goo" dropped in 2018. The full-length album was released in January 2019.
